สำนักข่าวรอยเตอร์ส รายงานจากกรุงสตอกโฮล์ม ประเทศสวีเดน เมื่อวันที่ 24 ม.ค. ว่า ภายหลังการเติบโตในช่วง 2 ปีของการระบาดใหญ่ อันมีสาเหตุมาจากการจ้างงานจำนวนมาก อุตสาหกรรมเทคโนโลยีกำลังเผชิญกับปัญหาอุปสงค์ตกต่ำ ส่งผลให้บริษัทหลายแห่ง ตั้งแต่บริษัท เมตา แพลตฟอร์มส์ อิงค์ ไปจนถึงบริษัท ไมโครซอฟท์ เลิกจ้างพนักงานหลายพันคนเมื่อไม่นานมานี้
“ในช่วง 2-3 เดือนที่ผ่านมา เราพยายามอย่างมากในการควบคุมค่าใช้จ่าย แต่มันก็ยังไม่เพียงพอ” นายแดเนียล เอ็ก ผู้บริหารสูงสุดของสปอติฟาย กล่าวในบล็อกโพสต์ที่ประกาศลดพนักงานประมาณ 600 ตำแหน่ง

ทั้งนี้ ค่าใช้จ่ายในการดำเนินงานของสปอติฟายเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 2 เท่าของรายรับในปีที่แล้ว เนื่องจากบริษัททุ่มเงินจำนวนมากไปกับธุรกิจพอดแคสต์ ซึ่งเป็นที่สนใจของผู้ลงโฆษณาหลายคน เพราะมันมีระดับการมีส่วนร่วมที่สูงขึ้น
แต่ในขณะเดียวกัน ธุรกิจต่าง ๆ กลับถอนเงินที่ใช้ในการโฆษณาบนแพลตฟอร์ม ซึ่งสะท้อนถึงแนวโน้มเดียวกันกับที่เกิดขึ้นในบริษัท อัลฟาเบต อิงค์ อันมาจากอัตราดอกเบี้ยที่พุ่งสูงอย่างรวดเร็ว และผลกระทบจากเศรษฐกิจที่ได้รับแรงกดดันจากสงครามในยูเครน
นอกจากนี้ บริษัทยังระบุเพิ่มเติมว่า นางดอว์น ออสตรอฟฟ์ หัวหน้าฝ่ายเนื้อหาโฆษณาของสปอติฟาย จะออกจากบริษัท หลังทำงานมานานกว่า 4 ปีเช่นกัน ซึ่งเธอเป็นคนที่ช่วยกำหนดรูปแบบธุรกิจพอดแคสต์ และฟันฝ่าปฏิกิริยาเชิงลบที่มาจากรายการของนายโจ โรแกน ซึ่งถูกกล่าวหาว่า เผยแพร่ข้อมูลเท็จเกี่ยวกับโรคโควิด-19.
